Join us on Saturday, September 7, 2024, for a Tailgate Swapmeet and Potluck Picnic.

Setup is at 9:30, Swapmeet begins at 10:00, and we plan to eat lunch at about 11:30.

Bring a chair, a dish to share, and a drink.

If you are swappin’ you might need a table, and stuff to trade (radio equipment or even cash works, too).

Parking is limited, if you are able, park a ways and walk. Feel free to drop off people and stuff and make someone else walk back.

  • New Years potluck – The Walkers are gracious enough to be hosting a New Year’s Potluck 2611 Knudsen Ave Farmington at 9AM on Saturday the 4th.
  • Keith’s Equipment – Was sold by Paul NM5PH
  • Ham testing – Nobody showed up to the Ham testing this time.
  • Inventory – Paull will move radios and then send information to be presented at the next meeting on the 725 & 735 Icom radios owned by the club.

New Business

  • Elections – Paull NM5PH was reelected for trustee
  • Elections – A motion to reelect All officers made by Bobbie N5XDQ, and seconded by Sturge WA5K, motion was unanimously passed
  • Ron’s wife – It was discussed if we should contact Ron’s Wife Wanda, contact Bobie if you wish to have an address to send condolences.
  • Insurance – Pay insurance- $320 bill, sturge

Sarah will take calls and coordinate dishes to ensure a balanced selection of foods and refreshments.
  • Keith Miller W5UAU Estate Donation –The radio equipment donated by Keith Miller’s estate were all sold for the agreed upon prices by Paul NM5PH.

New Business

  • Ham Radio testing 9AM – Saturday, 16 November. There may be up to 3 to test.
  • Elections – Elections will be held on the 12th of December
  • Inventory System – It was suggested that we keep an inventory of items owned by the club. Paull NM5PH and Bill KK5ZH will get us info.

Announcement:

Barbra Bowman has a pair of drake twins and Misc homebrew items which were Floyd’s (W5OXK) to sell. Please contact her if you are interested!

Old Business:

  • Road Apple Rally – Many club members participated in the Road Apple Rally. Devin KD5NMX was in charge and filled all positions with volunteers. We even had 2 more than the usual count participating. The management of the Road Apple Rally said that they would like to have us back next year. Everything went very smoothly. Thanks to all of those who participated!

New Business

  • Christmas party – The Christmas Party will not happen this year.
  • New Year’s Potluck – The New Year’s Potluck this year will be January 4th at the Walkers’ place from 9am – 1pm. Before planning or preparing your contribution to this potluck please contact Sarah Walker KB5SPX.   • Keith Miller Radio Equipment When Keith became a Silent Key he generously left some of his Radio Equipment with the club. Paull NM5PH did research online and priced the equipment according to its value on the current market. An email will be sent out for any equipment which does not sell by the time everyone actually leaves the meeting.
    • An email will be sent to club members. Then 2 weeks later, if it has not sold then an email will be sent to the Durango Amateur Radio Club so that they will get a chance to buy it. If any radio hasn’t sold by next meeting (Nov 14th) then it will be listed for sale online.

Bill KK5ZH, proposed that the meeting adjourn and Paul KE5FBN seconded. A vote was unanimous and the meeting adjourned at 20:06

  • Road Apple Rally – Road Apple Rally will be on October 5th.

New Business

  • Christmas Party – We are unsure if a Christmas Party will be feasible this year. We will discuss this more in October.
  • Potluck – At this potluck there were too many sweets and not enough main dishes. At future potlucks it might be better to coordinate via a sign-up sheet or something.
  • New Year’s Potluck – The New Year’s Celebration will be January 4th 9AM-1PM at Donnie’s and that will be a great time for members to pay the annual club does.
  • Repeater Donation – Ben Mc Gaha KB5ITS constantly maintains and improves an excellent and popular repeater system in our region which most of us use. It was proposed that we make a donation of $200 to help him out with costs. Motion was made by Pat KG5ZL and was seconded by Sarah KB5SPX. Motion passed unanimously.

  • Field Day – Our Field Day this year was successful, with many contacts made even though the weather was cold and wet.
  • Hwy Cleanup – The Highway cleanup was successful. Thank you to the Harveys for helping out!
  • Tailgate, Picnic, and Potluck – Our annual get together will be on Sept 7th this year at 10am. We have the park reserved until 1pm. Bring an appetite and a dish to share; we hope to see you there.
  • VE Testing – There are two upcoming test sessions
  • Sept 14th in Durango at 1:00 pm at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road, Durango, CO 81301.
  • November 16th in Farmington at 9:30 am at Sycamore park.

New Business

  • Albuquerque Tailgate– Bill went to the tailgate in Albuquerque and said that it was good and a good time was had by all.
  • Duke City Hamfest – The Duke City Hamfest is scheduled for September 20th – 22nd in Albuquerque. Don’t forget to mark your calendar.
  • Club Jackets – Inspired by a question from Sturge, Don asked the group if there was any interest in getting club jackets and possibly hats made. Bobbi says she does not know who did it before.
    • Some possible sources mentioned included:
      • Springtee (An internet business)
      • A new shop in town across from west Walmart.
      • Advertising Ideas
      • Various other vendors accessible by internet search, in order to comparison shop
      • An embroidering service ran by Alan Hall who Mike KG5WYJ has done business with in the past
    • It was also mentioned that reasons for going with local vendors could include convenience and being able to order one item at a time after the initial run.

  • Tailgate & Picnic – The Upper Rio Vista Park is reserved for September 7th For our annual tailgate and picnic.

  • Memorial Service for Jay KC5YTY – July 20th at 10:00AM at Brewer Lee & Larkin Funeral Home on Ute St. Donnie sent an email out and is waiting on more information

  • Farmington Tailgate – There will be a tailgate at Upper Rio Vista Park on August 3rd.
  • Picnic in Durango –Scott will ask Jess for whether it is the 20th or 22nd And send information out to everyone with the minutes. (2019-07-12 – Update: Jess confirmed that the Durango ham picnic will be held on Saturday July 20th Location and directions will be emailed along with the minutes).
  • Free Hat available – A club hat (one hat) is available for free to the first person who wishes to have it. If you are interested please contact Donnie KJ5GQ.

  • Jay’s equipment Jay’s equipment went to Donnie’s garage and we will be looking through it at some point in the near future.

  • 50K run We will, unfortunately, not be helping with a 50K run due to them not needing radio communications so much as general help and most of the posts being in areas which the majority of the club members would have difficulty accessing.

New Business

  • Durango pot luck and fox hunt 20th next month, all are welcome!
  • Abq tailgate American Legion Post in Albuquerque on June 29th . Anyone with questions should ask Bill KK5ZH
  • Durango Laurel training It was reported that the training and testing in Durango is going well and they have helped to make several more hams and upgrade others.
  • HighwayCleanup – The Semi-Annual highway cleanup hasn’t happened yet since some of the involved parties without health or physical concerns are trying to work out a time when they can show up.
